KINGSTON, Jamaica — Chief executive officer and commissioner of the Jamaica Tertiary Education Commission, Maxine Henry-Wilson, on Monday declared that elections are not won on electio0n day, but before the designated day.
Henry-Wilson, one of the presenters at the Mona School of Business Management-hosted public forum on the recently concluded general election, which is now under way at the University of the West Indies, said the People’s National Party was absorbed with passing International Monetary Fund tests.
“Voting takes place on election day, but elections are won before election day,” Henry-Wislson stated, adding that numbers win election, not advertisements.
A former education minister under the People’s National Party Administration, Henry-Wilson asserted that one of the downfalls of the now Opposition PNP was that they "were all absorbed in passing IMF tests".
Henry-Wilson said that for the people on the on the ground, passing IMF tests could not have been translated into benefits for them.
The forum, which is being held under the theme: “Elections 2016: Reflections and Next Steps”, will also feature presentations from Member of Parliament Julian Robinson, Senator Matthew Samuda, and Dr Lloyd Waller, head of UWI's Government Department.
